Technology

Responding to the impact of technology on our environmental footprints, Immortal Bloom’s Circular Economy approach permeates our use of technology to communicate and engage with the Climate Crisis

How it started

Our zero waste ambition extends to all aspects of our work, including our lighting electronics. We design our lighting systems to minimise waste, so that all the components can be reused or repurposed

The Context

e-waste (electronic waste) is a growing concern, not only because the number of electronic devices is set to grow exponentially, but also due to miniaturisation and integration, devices are becoming harder to repair. In addition, although newer devices are smaller and consume less energy, they require more energy to manufacture

What can we do?

By making our electronics last as long as possible, keeping them in use and repairing them when we can; we can reduce our impact. As with Fast Fashion, the desire to always have the latest thing leads to a lot of resource use and e-waste, as well as the demand for cheap devices with short lifespans

Our approach

At Immortal Bloom, we design our electronics to be reusable and repurposable. We aim to use removable connectors instead of soldering (which creates dispersed metal waste) and use reusable and repurposable “maker” controllers, and fix things which break
